Origins of Jazz Music

Some say jazz was officially born in 1917 when the Dixieland Jazz Band with Nick LaRocca recorded “Livery Stable Blues”, the first jazz record. Regardless, jazz music became very popular in the United States in the 1920’s and was appreciated by all different types of people. The Jazz Age started in the 1920’s, and jazz is credited with influencing a wide range of music including big band, pop, swing, rap, soul, and hip-hop music.
Riviera Maya Jazz Festival – November 2019
This year, the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival will be held from November 30th to December 2nd, 2019. A popular Cancun activity, the event is typically held during the end of November during Thanksgiving weekend. Vacationers to Cancun should take advantage of the open-air concert where they can hear a mixture of jazz genres. More than twenty-thousand people are expected to attend, and jazz greats such as Sergio Mendez, Earth Wind & Fire, George Benson, Tower of Power, and Celso Pina have participated in past events. This year, the three-day event starts on November 30th and lasts through December 2nd and has no admission fee. If you want close to the stage in the VIP section, there is a small fee to access that area. Plan to arrive to the festival early if you want a spot in the VIP area.
